Nursing & AHP Info Pack

Dear Colleague

A very warm welcome to Severnside Integrated Urgent Care (IUC).  We hope you enjoy working with us.  Severnside IUC is one part of BrisDoc Healthcare Services.

BrisDoc

BrisDoc Healthcare manages a variety of services, such as Homeless Health for Bristol; a GP practice, Broadmead Medical Centre (BMC); SevernSide IUC which is made up of; 111 for BNSSG (provided by Practice Plus Group), the Clinical Assessment Service (Out of Hours), System Clinical Assessment Service (SCAS), Weekday Professional Line (WDPL), and finally our most recent venture, the Integrated Access Partnership (IAP). This is the urgent and emergency mental health service for BNSSG which we are delivering in partnership with Avon & Wiltshire Partnership (AWP) and South Western Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST).

BrisDoc is an employee-owned organisation – you are now part of the Brisdoc family as a co-owner and this offers opportunities to steer and lead our organisation.  You can find out more about being a co-owner on Radar (Staff engagement (radar-brisdoc.co.uk). We also have a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme as your well-being is important to us.  The details are all available on Radar and completely confidential (The Staff Wellbeing Hub – Radar (radar-brisdoc.co.uk).

Your New Role

You have been allocated a Lead GP  or Lead Clinical Practitioner (LCP).  Please keep in touch with them as well as Sindy, our Clinical Administrator, they are here to support you.  Renuka (Head of Nursing and AHPs) and Rhys (Director of Nursing, AHPs and Governance) are also available if you have any ideas or concerns.  Contact details for the leadership team can be found below.

Your shadow shifts will have been confirmed and emailed to you separately.  We request that you start with two sessions at our Clinical Hub in Osprey Court, followed by two induction shifts in a base and then a final two sessions in our Clinical Hub if you are a clinical practitioner.  You may find it helpful to have a longer induction (please discuss this with your LCP).  The Clinical Hub will enable you to meet operational colleagues, the Clinical Co-Ordinator (CC), other LCPs and members of the team.  We can also offer additional clinical and technical support on a case-by-case basis while you get used to the new environment and system. New GP’s will have a bespoke induction plan arranged, please discuss this with your line manager.

You will have also been sent a document containing your passwords to Radar (platform for policies), RotaMaster (shift management), training platforms such as Learning for Health, as well as your clinical login details for Electronic Management Information System (EMIS) and Adastra (Clinical Software platform for IUC)).  This document will also contain your Safeguarding Log – please ensure you aware of all your statutory and mandatory training.

Mandatory Training

We request that all statutory and mandatory training is completed within four weeks of the start of your contract which ensures familiarity with Brisdoc process and provision of safe patient care.  Please discuss this with your line manager if this may prove challenging as it may affect the commencement of your shifts. We can also accept existing training if you have already done it somewhere else.

All the training required is listed at the bottom of this letter and there is a link to the Safeguarding Hub on Radar which explains the safeguarding training criteria required at Level 3 for all clinicians.

We have also included some links, policies, and videos which might be helpful for your induction, so please take a look.

We sincerely hope you enjoy working in urgent care with us at Brisdoc.  Please feel free to ask any questions during your induction and contact Sindy the Clinical team administrator (severnside.clinicaladmin@brisdoc.org) or your Line manager.

Wishing you a warm welcome and see you on shift!

System Clinical Assessment Service (CAS)

The System CAS is an integrated, system-wide clinical assessment service. This service consists of a diverse team of professionals from various specialities, including Emergency Department (ED), Urgent Care, Paediatrics, Mental Health, and General Practice. The ethos of this collaborative effort is to ensure patients receive the appropriate care at the first point of contact. The objective is to circumvent the need for ambulance dispatches or ED visits whenever possible.

This multi-professional, multi-speciality team has demonstrated remarkable efficacy. It has successfully reduced the necessity for approximately 80% System CAS patient contacts of emergency callouts and ED admissions. Furthermore, the service plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the majority of patients can be safely cared for within their communities, promoting better health outcomes and resource optimisation.
