As a company, we explore wider opportunities for fulfilling our mission in ways that fall outside of traditional service contracts with the NHS. Given the constraints on public finance and the cost of living, there are many areas of need within local communities that cannot be addressed by public resources, some of these relate directly to healthcare and others to the wider determinants of poor health or health inequalities.
BrisDoc’s shareholders have given approval to exercise its corporate social responsibility to make a contribution to addressing gaps in services or care both in local communities and those within the developing world. This is known as the BrisDoc Community Fund.
The purpose of the BrisDoc Community Fund is to ring fence an agreed percentage of BrisDoc’s financial surplus year on year to:
- make a difference to local communities by improving health and as a consequence people’s life chances
- support people in need in the UK and in the developing world
- harness the motivation and skills of our workforce to support agreed initiatives
- help address the gap between what is publicly funded and the health needs of specific communities and groups
The aim of the Community Fund is to provide a mechanism by which BrisDoc can ring fence financial resource and allocate it to selected partners for agreed projects. The projects and registered charities funded usually meet the following criteria:
- Improving health and wellbeing
- Addressing poverty and health inequalities
- Protecting the environment and tackling climate change
- Allowing for areas of practical engagement with Brisdoc co-owners
How Can I Be Involved?
The management committee overseeing the BrisDoc Community Fund engage with co-owners in regard to this development and to facilitate effective staff involvement. As a co-owner, you may want to contribute to this initiative which could include a number of options such as:
- One-off fundraising events (with a focus on health & wellbeing and equality)
- Contributions of time, practical support or specific expertise
