As BrisDoc grows, inevitably our impact on the environment grows. To encourage us to be good custodians of our environment, we have a Green Board who champion everything green and support the NHS in its goal of becoming net zero. Their role is to develop our own Green Plan and oversee the implementation of the strategy. They also aim to embed a sustainability culture – where all co-owners feel confident in making eco-friendly choices.
As part of our commitment to our social impact; in 2015 we were first accredited with ISO14001 for having an Environmental Management System.
ISO is the International Organisation for Standardisation and ISO standards for business, government and society as a whole make a positive contribution to the world we live in. They ensure vital features such as quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness; and facilitate good environmental management practices.
Since 2008 BrisDoc has been accredited with ISO 9001 for having a Quality Management System which sets the standards for the way we manage and deliver high quality services. Our quality policy which includes our quality objectives is available on radar.
ISO 14001 helps organisations identify and control their impact on the environment and improve their environmental performance. This will benefit BrisDoc by:
- Improving our business performance through rational use of resources and processes;
- Reducing raw material usage, waste generation and disposal costs;
- Lowering energy consumption; and;
- Fostering optimal use of recoverable resources;
Sensible use of our resources; minimising our impact on air and water in the environment; contributing to local initiatives to re-use and recycle; and contributing to a reduction in the use of fossil fuels are important to BrisDoc and all those who work for us. All our sites have recycling facilities. Please make best use of them.
Whilst this list is not exhaustive please think before you:
- Print or photocopy – does it need to be printed, can you print in black and white and double sided?
- Throw your rubbish in the bin – can it be recycled?
- Accelerate a BrisDoc vehicle – this impacts on fuel use and emissions
- Leave the tap running – this increases the amount of water used
- Pour substances down a sink – are you putting water sources at risk of contamination?
- Turn and leave on a light – this uses fossil fuels
- Turn the heating up – this uses fossil fuels
Any little effort made by every member of staff contributes to BrisDoc making an organisational impact on the environment. We can still improve on reducing the amount of printing we do, paper we use and electricity we use through lighting.
We are grateful for your support and participation in our ambitions towards caring for the environment.
